Plain-English summary
The HACCPapp website uses only minimal, essential cookies and local storage to keep the site working and remember a couple of your preferences. We do not use advertising, analytics or cross-site tracking cookies, and we never sell or share browsing data.
No tracking, no ad networks, no Google Analytics, no Meta Pixel. The website sets only the small handful of essential and preference items listed below. The HACCP app itself stores your food safety records locally on your device so it works offline — that's on-device storage, not third-party tracking.
1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. Cookies let a site remember things between page loads or visits — for example, that you've already dismissed a notice or chosen a language. Closely related technologies such as local storage and session storage work similarly but keep the data in your browser rather than sending it back to a server with every request.
Cookies can be essential (the site cannot function correctly without them), functional (they remember preferences and improve your experience), or used for analytics and advertising. The HACCPapp website uses only the first two categories.
2. Cookies & local storage we use
The table below is a complete inventory of the cookies and local storage items the HACCPapp website may set. We do not currently use any analytics or advertising cookies.
| Name / Type | Purpose | Duration | Category |
|---|---|---|---|
| haccp_session Essential cookie |
Maintains a secure session and protects forms against cross-site request forgery (CSRF) when you contact support or sign in. | Session (cleared when you close the browser) | Essential |
| cookie_consent Functional cookie / local storage |
Remembers that you've seen and acknowledged this cookie notice so it isn't shown again on every visit. | Up to 12 months | Functional |
| site_prefs (e.g. language) Functional local storage |
Stores lightweight display preferences such as your chosen language or region so the site shows the right content. | Until you clear it (persistent local storage) | Functional |
| Google Fonts Third-party request |
Web fonts are delivered from Google's servers. This sets no advertising cookie, but loading the fonts means Google may log the request, including your IP address. See third-party services below. | Browser font cache (no first-party cookie set) | Functional |
| Analytics cookies | Not used. We do not run Google Analytics or any other site-analytics tool. | — | None |
| Advertising / tracking cookies | Not used. No ad networks, no Meta Pixel, no cross-site or remarketing trackers. | — | None |
Cookie and storage names above are illustrative of their function; the exact technical names may vary, but the categories and purposes are accurate and complete.
3. Third-party services
We keep third parties to the absolute minimum. The only external services that touch this website are:
- Google Fonts — used to deliver the typefaces on this site. Google may log the request (including your IP address) when your browser fetches a font, but Google Fonts does not set advertising cookies through this delivery. See Google's privacy information for detail.
- Google Play Billing — only relevant when you subscribe to the HACCP app on Android. Payment is handled entirely by Google Play within the app, not by this website, and we never see your card details.
No Google Analytics, no Meta (Facebook) Pixel, no advertising or remarketing networks, and no cross-site tracking of any kind on the HACCPapp website.
4. The app vs the website
It's worth being clear about the difference between this website and the HACCP app:
- The website (haccpapp.net) uses the small set of essential and functional cookies described above.
- The HACCP app does not use marketing cookies at all. Instead it stores your temperature logs, daily checks and allergen records in on-device storage so it works offline, and it uses secure authentication tokens to keep you signed in and sync your records. These are functional, not tracking, technologies.
For exactly what the app collects, why, and your rights under GDPR, see our Privacy Policy.
5. Managing cookies
You're always in control. You can view, block or delete cookies and clear local storage at any time using your browser's settings:
- Chrome — Settings › Privacy and security › Cookies and other site data.
- Safari — Settings › Privacy › Manage Website Data.
- Firefox — Settings › Privacy & Security › Cookies and Site Data.
- Edge — Settings › Cookies and site permissions.
Most browsers also let you browse in a private/incognito window, which clears cookies and local storage when you close it.
Blocking or deleting the essential cookies may break parts of the site — for example, secure forms or sign-in may stop working correctly. Functional cookies can be removed safely; you'll just see the cookie notice again or lose a saved preference.
6. Do Not Track & consent (GDPR / ePrivacy / PECR)
Under the EU ePrivacy Directive, the UK's Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and the GDPR / UK GDPR, websites generally need consent before setting non-essential cookies. Because the HACCPapp website uses only strictly essential and basic functional cookies — and no analytics or advertising trackers — no consent banner is strictly required for us to operate.
You can still withdraw any preference and clear all cookies and local storage at any time through your browser, as described above. We honour Do Not Track in spirit by simply not running the kind of tracking that DNT is designed to stop — there is nothing for it to switch off here.
7. Changes to this policy
If we ever add a new cookie or third-party service — for example, if we introduce privacy-respecting analytics in future — we'll update this page first, refresh the "last updated" date, and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent before any non-essential cookie is set.
